International Visitor arrivals were up 8% in June 2010 compared to 2009 - signaling a promising ski season ! The growth was driven by a 7.5% increase in Australian visitors and a strong recovery in arrivals out of China, Japan and South Korea. Fewer visitors from the UK (big drop !) and the USA (!). Arrivals for the year ending June passed 2.5 million visitors for the first time. The 2 million mark was reached in November 2002 and the 1 million mark in April 1992. Source: Statistics New Zealand

Individual Tickets for Rugby World Cup 2011 go on sale this SEPTEMBER and it is expected this will create high demand from the FIT (free and independent traveler) market who will then want to plan and book their trip to New Zealand. Source TIA

The first of New Zealand's national cycleway has been officially launched on Friday 2 July by New Zealand Prime Minister John Key. Two large sections of a trail that runs south from Ruapehu in the central North Island through the Whanganui region to the western coast were opened at a launch ceremony at the Ohakune Railway Station.
