NEW Nelson to Kaiteriteri ferry Service will begin before Christmas !
After just 25 weeks of construction, Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle's new innovative $1.2 million vessel "The Crusader", is nearing completion. The 150-seater catamaran will ferry people from Nelson at the Top of the South Island to Kaiteriteri at the beginning of the Abel Tasman National Park and back once a day and for the rest of the day will be the flagship of the Kaiteriteri to Totaranui and return run during the rest of the day!
Only in operation during the height of the tourist season.
The new boat gives the opportunity for visitors to have a choice of either coach or boat to the Abel Tasman National Park
Building the boat has been a seven day affair since it started. During the time of being built only one weekend has been taken off.

Exciting News - Aratere Interislander Ship Extension Confirmed

Aratere will be sailing away to Singapore in March 2011 for a major extension project. The ship will be cut in two and a fabricated section will be inserted then she will be put back together. This will see Aratere lengthened by over 30 metres !
During the project a new more streamlined bow section will be added improving carbon footprint while smoothing the journey across the Cook Strait (between the South and North Island of New Zealand).
The elongated bow will add a further 4.3 m - taking the Aratere's length on return to a Kaitaki sized 183m !

A few facts:
Passenger Capacity will increase from 360 to 600
30% more freight & vehicle space
Aratere Plus Premium Lounge........watch this space !

The Aratere Ship is scheduled to return to New Zealand at the end of August 2011 - in time for the Rugby World Cup demand !
