Question: GENERAL: Why do I need travel insurance?

Answer: When outside New Zealand, the majority of day-to-day insurance policies will not cover you. All sorts of things can go wrong, whether through illness, theft, or property damage. In order that you can travel with complete peace of mind, it is recommended that you take out some form of Travel Insurance

Question: GENERAL: When should I take out travel insurance?

Answer: You should take out Mike Henry Travel Insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday, or at least as soon as you have paid for your tickets. Your policy includes many benefits which you may require prior to travel. For example; if you or a close family member become ill and are unable to travel, you are covered for travel and accommodation costs you had prepaid for your holiday and are unable to recover.

Question: PREGNANCY: I am 3 months pregnant, am I covered and is it considered an Existing Medical Condition?

Answer: Pregnancy is NOT considered to be a pre-existing medical condition. Cover for pregnancy is automatic up to and including 28 weeks of pregnancy for costs incurred because of unforeseeable medical complications or emergencies which happened before the 29th week of pregnancy. If this occurs after your departure from New Zealand then we will pay for non-routine emergency hospitalisation costs up to a maximum of $100,000, whether a single or multiple birth and before the 29th week of pregnancy.

Question: EXTENSIONS: Can I extend my policy, and how many times?

Answer: Yes a policy can be extended as long as it is done before it expires and any one policy cannot exceed a total of 12 months with extensions available to a maximum of 2 years. The policy can be extended via credit card by calling Mike Henry (NZ) Ltd or by contacting the Agent who issued your Travel Insurance Policy.

Question: EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS: I have gout but haven't seen a doctor for 12 months, do I need to complete a Medical Certificate?

Answer: The requirement for a medical certificate will depend upon your destination, your age, the Mike Henry travel insurance policy you have chosen, and when you last received medication or medical advice for your condition. Question: ADVENTURE SPORTS: Will I be covered if I want to go white water rafting or scuba diving?

Answer: Name just about any sport or activity and you'll be covered automatically, although we do not cover mountaineering or rock climbing using support ropes, scuba diving below 30 meters, white water rafting on a river graded higher than grade 4, racing (except on foot) or any professional sporting activity. We do not cover sporting equipment or watercraft of any type whilst in use. We do offer an activities policy for those activities that are not covered under the leisure policy.

Question: MOTOR BIKES: I am planning to hire a motorbike. Will I be covered while I'm riding it and will I be covered if I injure someone else or their property?

Answer: Terms and conditions apply whilst riding any motorbike with a 200cc or higher rating. Please contact Mike Henry NZ Ltd for these terms. If you injure someone else or damage their property whilst riding no cover is available, under Mike Henry Travel Insurance policies. Please ensure that your Vehicle Rental agreement covers you for this circumstance.

Question: WORKING HOLIDAYS: I intend to work my way around the world, will I be covered if I am working?

Answer: The policy covers claims resulting from work related activities, provided you are unable to claim from an alternative source. Manual work is excluded under the policy, unless you contact Mike Henry (NZ) to arrange an authority as additional terms may be added. Personal Liability cover is excluded whilst working.

Question: LUGGAGE: We will be hiring a car, if we leave our luggage in the car will it be covered?

Answer: No cover is available for luggage left unattended in a public place. This includes places like the beach, hotel foyers or in a motor vehicle overnight. Photographic equipment, mobile telephones, computers and jewellery must be stored in the boot whilst the vehicle is unattended during the day.

Question: LUGGAGE: If the airline loses my luggage, what do I need to claim?

Answer: You will need to report the loss to the carrier and get from them a written report, usually in the form of a Baggage Irregularity Report (BIR). Initially you will need to claim through the airline, with any shortfall being cover by your Mike Henry Travel Insurance Policy. You will also need to provide proof of ownership of the items lost.

Question: DURATION: How long can I take out a Mike Henry travel insurance policy for?

Answer: The maximum period of cover under any Mike Henry travel insurance policy is 365 days. Extensions are available to a maximum of 2 years total insurance. The only exception to this is the Pacific Rim policy which has a maximum duration of 15 days and covers travel within the Pacific Rim region of Australia, or South Pacific Islands.

Question: COMMENCEMENT: Can I take out a Mike Henry travel insurance policy after I have left New Zealand?

Question: GENERAL: Is Mike Henry Travel Insurance designed for holidays or working trips?

Answer: Mike Henry Travel Insurance Services can provide a policy to suit your individual travel requirements. We have policies specifically designed for Business or Leisure travellers.

Question: LIMITATIONS: What is the limit per item that I can insure things for - can it be increased?

Answer: Under the leisure policy any item or set of items is automatically covered to $1000. This can be increased for an additional surcharge of 2% of the full current market value to $5000. The Business policy offers automatic cover for business items and trade samples to $5000. This cover can be increased by contacting Mike Henry (NZ) Limited for approval - a surcharge and additional terms will apply.

Question: STATUS: Do I have to be a New Zealand citizen to purchase Mike Henry travel insurance?

Answer: Mike Henry Travel Insurance can offer insurance to Non New Zealanders also.

Question: EXCESS: When will my excess apply?

Answer: Your excess will apply whenever you claim. This will be deducted from each loss which occurs as a separate event. For example; while on holiday you fall and require hospitalisation and in falling, you also break your camera. As both of these claims relate to the same event (the fall) you are required to pay only one excess.
