NZ Ski New Zealand skiing and snowboarding holidays - Mt Hutt

Mt Hutt -Skiing in New Zealand

New Zealand skiing and snowboardingNestled high inside the eastern rim of the Southern Alps is Mt Hutt Ski Area, which receives some of the deepest, lightest, driest powder in Australasia.
Overlooking the spectacular vista of the sprawling patchwork quilt of the Canterbury Plains with the blue Pacific Ocean in the far distance, skiers and snowboarders from all around the world can revel in the longest season in the Southern Hemisphere.

With plenty of adrenaline-pumping Black Diamond runs on the South Face, extreme skiers and boarders will have as many different challenges as they can handle. The wide open terrain is great for first-time skiers and families too. Mt Hutt's new specially designed Children's Centre, Ski and Snowboard School and purpose built beginners area will definitely teach you a thing or two.
Snowmaking starts early May, ensuring great snow for the whole season. All this is just one hour's drive from cosmopolitan Christchurch and a stone's throw from the friendly country town of Methven, Mt Hutt's village.

New for 2009
The most exciting project of 2009 at Mt Hutt is the introduction of a radio station which will broadcast live on road snow conditions and other key information that will be readily available to those guests heading yp the mountain.

Mt Hutt experienced one of its biggest snow seasons ever in 2008 and some challenges in getting the mountain open as quickly as we and our quests would have liked. To help overcome these difficulties we will be purchasing new snow clearing equpiment to do the necessary after a heavy snowfall. A new webcam is also being installed here.

New Groomers
7 new groomers are being purchased across all three mountains replacing existing machines, these will be more 'greener', more efficient and wil result in better surface conditions and more corduroy to carve up.

Rental Equipment Replacement
Mt Hutt will receive a brand new fleet of rental equipment from head utilising their new BYS system. The system is designed to increase the speed of operation ultimately delivering a better customer experience for guests and schoold groups. The existing Mt Hutt equipment will be transferred to Queenstown adding adding volume to both the Coronet Peak and Remarkables' fleets.

Trail Signage
The installation of new and upgraded trail signage accross the mountain will take placce at all three ski areas. This is to enhance the on-snow experience and safety of our guests.
